⇒ Progressive Democrats have little in common with republicans, although several progressives democrats are against the Trans Pacific-Partnership (e.g. Marcy Kaptur) that Trump is against (he has now signed an order withdrawing the USA from the TPP), they share some interests with moderate republicans
⇒ Blue Dog democrats have had to appeal to a more conservative base in the south to win votes. They are more conservative on moral issues and favour states rights over 'big government'

⇒ He's tapped into some of the anger and populism of the TEA party but is not exactly a neo-conservative (e.g. he says Iraq was a mistake). HOWEVER, he warned that military action against North Korea was possible.

⇒ Republicans appeared united during the Obama era when the President and Obamacare were focal points to get behind, but Trump has split the party as he's divisive, and are failing to come forward with concrete policy proposals
